Overview
Use of evidence and analysis is central to producing better policy. It helps us to understand the sectors we work with, shows us what works and why, and can be used to predict future policy impacts.
Understanding our sectors, the economy and the world around us
Data and research help us to understand what is happening in our sectors, from the impact of global economic trends on an industry to an individual’s changing tastes and preferences. Having objective and robust information about a sector is crucial to identifying problems and opportunities and putting departmental policy in context.
Useful tools and sources include:
- regular statistics on engagement with our sectors and their economic contribution, such as the Taking Part Survey and Creative Industries Economic Estimates
- the CASE programme of strategic research into our sectors
- horizon scanning to explore potential future trends and their impacts on our sectors
- commissioning new research
