Using evidence in policymaking guide Guide

2. Assessing policy impact

When policy has been developed it is important to capture its impact to determine if it has been successful, whether it should continue or whether anything needs to change. EAU can help put in place monitoring processes and evaluations and interpret what these mean for policy recommendations.

  • existing regular surveys, like the Taking Part Survey, may be suitable for monitoring the impact of a policy and EAU statisticians can advise on the potential of this or new forms of data collection
  • evaluations provide information and evidence to underpin learning, improve the design and delivery of policy and identify what is most effective
