5. Sick leave and sick pay
Sick leave
Sick absence is either self-certified or certified by a registered medical practitioner. Limits are calculated on a pro-rata basis in line with the limits applied forĀ full-time staff. Weekends and days not normally worked do not count towards sickness absence totals.
Managers are responsible for recording and monitoring sickness absence levels. If you exceed your limit or your pattern of sick absences is a cause for concern this may lead to formal action.
Sick pay
You will be paid either your normal hourly rate of pay or if the hours are irregular, the average weekly hours worked over the previous quarter.
