Part-time working guide Guide

6. Switching from full-time to part-time working, including annual leave

Switching from part-time to full-time working

If you wish to vary your number of hours worked or return to FT hours you should complete a workforce planning form.   Your request will then be considered by the workforce planning group.

Switching from full-time to part-time working – annual leave

If you switch to PT working try to use your leave before switching as the balance of leave as a PT member of staff may be disproportionate. Your  manager can request that you do this.

Example: John is FT and has 20 days leave, this is equivalent to 4 weeks leave. He changes to a PT working pattern, working 2 days per week. His 20 day leave is now equivalent to 10 weeks leave.

The standard 10 day carry over limit is also reduced if you transfer to PT working. Work out your carry over allowance by:

Multiplying your weekly hours by 10 > and divide by 5

If you switch to PT working halfway through the year use the calculation above for the remainder of the year and the full time calculation for the earlier part of the year – you get 10 and a half public and privilege days a year as a FT employee.
