Sick leave guide Guide

2. Development Manager’s responsibilities

As part of the Department’s duty of care to staff, Activity and Development Managers have a responsibility for staff to ensure their wellbeing.

If a member of staff does not report for work unexpectedly and they are uncontactable, you should notify HR who will try and reach them via their emergency contact numbers on Oracle.

Development Managers are also responsible for monitoring and managing their staff’s sickness absence. Informal return to work meetings should always be held however long or short the absence.

As a general guide, a record of 10 or more work days lost through sickness – whether certificated or uncertificated – over the course of a year may be cause for concern. However the circumstances and reasons for the sick leave should always be taken into account.

Development Managers should raise any initial concerns with the member of staff and where and if necessary, consult HR as to the procedures for handling poor attendance.

Development Managers should also contact HR if it becomes clear that a member of staff’s absence will be long term. HR will support them in referring the employee to Health Management, ACME’s Occupational Health advisor.

If Development Managers have any concerns or queries on how to apply the sickness absence policy they should always contact HR for advice and support.
