Overview
Why are policy evaluations important
Evaluations are a crucial part of how the Government shows results to the taxpayer and achieves transparency in the decision making process.
Evaluations are also directly useful for professional staff and decision makers because they provide information and evidence which:
- underpins learning
- improves the design and impact of projects, programmes and policies
- identifies what works and what is most cost-effective
Evaluations help to maximise the impact of resources used. They provide evidence of how and why interventions work and the impact of resources invested; this demonstrates value for money to the taxpayer which helps to justify future funding.
