Maternity, paternity and adoption leave guide Guide

4. Paternity leave

If you qualify for the ACME paternity leave scheme you are entitled to up to 11 days paid paternity leave on full pay. This can be taken as either two separate weeks or two consecutive weeks, which must be taken within 56 days of the birth of the child/of the child being placed with the adopting parent.

Additional Paternity Leave

Eligible employees may also take up to 26 weeks additional paternity leave within the first year of their child’s life provided that the mother has returned to work before using her full entitlement to maternity leave. The husband or partner must provide proof that the mother has returned to work and is no longer claiming Maternity Pay.

Similar arrangements are also available to adoptive parents within the first year after the child’s placement for adoption.

You can start Additional Paternity Leave from 20 weeks after your child arrives and it must end by your child’s 1st birthday, or 1 year after adoption.
