Freedom of Information (FOI) requests guide Guide

Overview

There is a 20 day deadline for a response from the Department to FOI requests, which runs from the date the request is received.

What qualifies as an FOI request?

Treat all requests for information held on record as FOI, even if the person hasn’t stated it is an FOI request.

If the information is already widely available, there is no need to handle the request as FOI. Just reply supplying the web address or other details of where the information can be found publically. For example, the ACME annual report is published on our website.

Who to contact

Contact the FOI team immediately if you receive correspondence which asks:

  • to see copies of documents, or asks for information held on record
  • for information which is not readily available
  • for environmental information
