Freedom of Information (FOI) requests guide Guide

4. Your responsibilities

Look out for potential FOI queries within general correspondence and pass them to the FOI team or IS team quickly.

Be aware:

  • any information held on record (in any format) may be subject to an FOI request – avoid writing/emailing anything you could not justify publicly
  • deleting information you know is subject to an existing FOI request constitutes a criminal offence
  • marking a document CONFIDENTIAL doesn’t mean it won’t be used in answering an FOI
