Annual leave guide Guide

3. Untaken leave

Carrying over/bringing forward leave

You can carry over or bring forward up to 10 days leave. If you are part-time, your carry over is reduced in proportion to your hours.

Compensation for untaken leave

During service

You will not be paid for untaken leave unless you are specifically prevented from taking your leave. In this instance, your development manager and Director will have to satisfy themselves that you would have been unable to take your backlog of leave in order to agree to offer cash compensation. This is as an alternative to carrying over 10 days.

When leaving ACME

If you are leaving ACME in any of the circumstances below and have untaken leave, the workforce sub-group will only consider compensation in the following circumstances:

  • Retirement  – If you have been unable to take all your leave before retirement or retire on sick leave
  • Resignation – If you have been prevented from taking leave for management or other operational reasons
  • Dismissal – If your appointment hasn’t been confirmed following a probation period. In all other instances of dismissal compensation will not be given.

If you leave the Department having taken more leave than you are owed, a deduction will be made from your salary. Where death occurs in service this payment will not be recovered.
