Scope of the policy

These pages:

  • provide guidance on when travel and subsistence is appropriate
  • give advice on how all employees can claim back expenses incurred whilst on necessary official business
  • suggest where it may be appropriate to pay expenses to former employees
  • apply to all employees, irrespective of grade, as well as interims and contractors engaged in ‘official travel’

They also set out:

  • The Department’s obligations to employees that travel on official business
  • The rules around different types of expenses
  • The process by which an individual can claim for expenses

Please note: Expenses will only be paid for actual costs incurred, and subsistence will not be paid at a flat rate.
