Senior civil service guide Guide

Overview

The Senior Civil Service (SCS) are the most senior staff in the Department. The Cabinet Office helps departments and agencies to develop expertise and promote cohesion across the SCS, through a common broad management framework and by encouraging mobility between departments and agencies.

SCS Terms and Conditions

These SCS terms and conditions are agreed centrally:

  • SCS members must sign a personal contract before taking a first appointment or any post involving a step change in responsibility and a pay increase
  • SCS should be managed in accordance with the Cabinet Office guidance ‘A Checklist of Processes for SASC Group Appointments’
  • Pay – Decisions on SCS pay are taken by the ACME SCS Pay Committee
