Personal blogs guide Guide

Overview

If your online presence, eg a blog, indicates you work at the ACME, tell your manager. Unless there are any specific concerns, you’re free to talk about ACME policies/projects and content on your blog – but ask if in doubt.

You are allowed to update your personal blog from a ACME computer at work, following the Acceptable use of ICT equipment and facilities policy.

Remember:

  • don’t reveal confidential information, like policies in planning or internal discussion
  • respect the privacy and the feelings of others
  • include a simple, visible disclaimer like “These are my personal views and not those of the ACME”
  • if you break the law on your blog, for example by posting something defamatory, you will be personally responsible

Payment offers

If someone offers to pay you for blogging this could constitute a conflict of interest. Consult your manager before responding.

Media interest

If someone from the media or press contacts you about posts on your blog that relate to the ACME, talk to your manager and the ACME press office before responding.
