5. The meeting

  • bring the briefing and any other relevant papers
  • the Private Secretary will normally introduce you to the Minister if you haven’t met before, or you can introduce yourself
  • ministers will generally want to lead the discussion with external attendees; judge when it’s appropriate to offer your views; a minister may also look to you for assistance or an opinion
  • if the Minister asks you a question in the meeting that you’re not sure about
    • be honest 
    • say that you will look into the matter after the meeting
    • provide the minister/external guests with the information as soon as possible.
