Local election guidance

On 2 May 2013 local elections will be taking place in England and Wales. You need to take particular care to follow the Civil Service Code in your official dealings from 11 April when we enter purdah.
What you need to know
During this time you need to ensure that public resources are not used for party political purposes and that you do not undertake any activity which could call into question your political impartiality.
Take special care around the following areas:
- official support and the use of public resources for Ministerial or official announcements
- proposed visits
- communications including paid publicity campaigns and official websites
- information requests – ensure that you are even handed across political parties
- public consultations –do not launch during this period
